Menopause Evaluation in Ridgewood, and Bayonne, NJ

When you visit us for a menopause evaluation, you can expect the following steps:

Check for Symptoms

The first step of the evaluation is to discover which precise symptoms you have. It’s very important to be as open as possible so that your doctor can get a full view of the issue.

If you have enough time, track your symptoms for the days or weeks leading up to your appointment on paper. You can then pass this list on to Dr. Bentolila and Dr. Saitta for a more thorough evaluation.

Discuss Your Cycle

You’ll also be asked about your last cycle and any irregularities during that time as this can provide insight. Like your symptoms, try to track your period, writing down everything that you experience.

Examination

Often, the first two steps are enough to provide a menopause diagnosis. However, there may be some tests performed if there is any uncertainty or if you have symptoms that sound similar to other issues. Some common testing options include the following:

  • pH swab- This is a vaginal swab that determines your pH levels. Before menopause, the pH is around four and a half, but it rises to about six during menopause.
  • Blood tests- Blood tests are sometimes used to check your estrogen and FSH or follicle-stimulating hormone levels
  • Lipid profile- This is to check your cholesterol levels as menopause can elevate them.
  • Thyroid function- Some symptoms of menopause can also be signs of hypothyroidism, so we might test your thyroid function to determine which condition you have.
  • Kidney and liver function- Menopause can impact the kidneys and liver. By testing these organs, we can further evaluate your menopause symptoms.

Treatment for Menopause

After you’ve been evaluated and diagnosed, we will discuss treatment options with you. Some women need no treatment as the symptoms do not cause them any discomfort.

However, for some, menopause is an uncomfortable and frustrating time. If this is the case for you, there are treatments available depending on the symptoms you face. These include hormone therapy as well as pills and patches for vaginal dryness and discomfort.

You don’t have to suffer through menopause symptoms in silence. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Eric Bentolila and Dr. Jacqueline Saitta for menopause evaluation and treatment in Ridgewood, and Bayonne, NJ by calling (201) 447-1700 for Ridgewood, or in Bayonne, by calling (201) 447-0467.
