What Causes Menopause?
Menopause usually occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when levels of estrogen and progesterone produced by a woman's body change, according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. The natural decline of both those reproductive hormones occurs as women age.
Menopause may also occur if a woman has undergone a hysterectomy, radiation or chemotherapy.
What are Common Menopause Symptoms?
There are well-known symptoms, such as:
- Irregular periods
- Hot flashes
There are other symptoms women suffer from and, unfortunately, they aren't as well known or discussed as much:
- Vaginal dryness
- Night sweats
- Mood changes
- Sleep problems
- Slowed metabolism
- Weight gain
- Thinning hair
Your body is going through new changes, so bleeding and/or spotting after menopause is not normal.
You need to consult with your Ridgewood doctor right away if you notice any of these symptoms.
